7 Quick Takes

1. Well, well. I'm 8 weeks postpartum already! and ready to lose some weight. The hubs and I have been eating healthier, smaller portions since the beginning of Lent. I feel pretty good so far. Not amazing, but pretty good. I have to crack open my Jillian Michaels dvd but I'm nervous because I don't like when she yells at me. Plus her eyebrows frighten me like no one else's eyebrows, way more than Dracula's eyebrows. Even when she's happy, she looks like she's plotting.
hide yo kids, hide yo wife.

joy to the world.
Anyway I've lost about 5 lbs so far and can now fit into a pair (ONE. PAIR.) of my pre prego jeans. YABBADABBADOOOOOO!!!!
2.  The kids discovered a bag of Starburst candy in the food cupboard, and not only did they begin begging for it every five or 3 and a half minutes, but they also refuse to call the candy by it's rightful name. Instead, they call it "gooey things" (or "gooey fings" if you are Jude). That is over -the -top disgusting in my opinion, especially when you are dealing with little nosepickers. After I broken - record corrected them, they began calling them "Starbirds" or "Starburrs". That's way better.

3. Can someone please recommend a good nail polish for me? One that doesn't chip really easily? My entire life, I have bitten my nails. Like, really really badly. The kind of nail biting that would warrant some kind of staged intervention with friends and family begging me to stop, during which I would surely resort to biting my nails.
Well, miracle of miracles, I stopped biting my nails right after the baby was born. THIS IS A HUGE DEAL FOR ME, and everyday I ask Dan "Don't my nails look GREAT?" After over 6 weeks of being asked the same question on a daily basis, I can tell he is growing weary. Anyway, I use OPI's Nail Envy and Sally Hansen's Insta Dry polish, along with her No Chip topcoat, but my nail polish keeps chipping and I hate that! I need a better polish. Please suggest.

4. Another thing I'm looking for : a cute pair of brown boots. Not with a high heel. Not too tight around the leg. Got any suggestions, or know of any great sales?

5. You want a delicious, healthy, easy, cheap, meatless meal idea perfect for a Lenten Friday like today? I present to you the Lentil Sandwich recipe.
my lentils cooking. yummmmmm.
Yo, lentils are mad good for you. And they're super yummy. Protein and fiber, my friends. That's good stuff right there.
Ingredients: one bag of green lentils, 2 celery, 1 onion, 2 carrots, olive oil, 1 can diced tomatoes, 1 cup basmati rice, 12 cups of water, salt and pep, hot sauce (I use Frank's), low fat cheese (provolone or swiss). For the spices, I use cumin, cinnamon and/or allspice, and ginger. Sometimes curry. I just eyeball it, maybe a few teaspoons of each. It's your call.
sautee the veggies in oil. Add lentils, water, tomatoes. Bring to a boil, then let it simmer. Add rice. Let it cook down until it's not soupy anymore, but more like a spread. You want the water to be pretty much gone.
Take out enough to stuff a pita or a wrap with.Mix it with a little hot sauce, to taste. Stuff the pita or wrap and put a slice of cheese in there. That's it!!!
This makes ALOT of food. You will probably have plenty of leftovers. I like heating it up in a bowl for lunch or whatever the next day. Hell, I've even eaten it for breakfast. It's delish.

6. Yesterday my kidlets - JP (6) Lucie (5) and Jude (3) - surprise cleaned "mommy and daddy's bedroom". I suspected this may have been happening when I heard Jude yell "Mommy we're cweanin you're woom!!!" and JP yelled "NO JUDE!!! It's a SURPRISE!!!" , but I pretended I didn't know. Our bed looked like it had been made by a team of drunken dwarves, but who cares? It was adorable.

7. And finally, someone here is celebrating a year of sobriety.

Jude and his dog.

Try to make me go to rehaaaaab.

Gurrrrl. That is one sick puppy.
I found him like this a year ago. We had no clue it was so bad. I'm tellin you...right under our noses.  He was always so cuddly and docile. I guess we thought we could trust him at home by himself.
Sadly, we were mistaken.
Just goes to show you can never be too careful.
Seriously though...I don't know what little game my kids were playing? but this is awesome. One of my favorite family pictures by far.
That's it, folks. Nothin more to see here. Need a quick fix? quick takes is the answer. Have a great weekend!!

  2. For nail polish; try Essie. I've been wearing the color "Miss Fancy Pants" for a week with no chipping! This is the only brand I use that doesn't chip after a few days of wearing it. Try Target for the boots...I have a great pair of brown boots that were pretty decently priced back in November, and you may find some on sale this time of year.

the worst is doing Jillian videos around kids, she says some pretty weird crap, but her workouts sure the kick the behind.

also, drunken dwarves, you are hysterical.

    1. jillian really does say some weird crap and it also freaks me out when she "encourages" the excercise leaders or whtever you call them. she sounds like a truckdriver and it is downright frightening.

  5. I second Essie! It's a little pricey for penny-pincher me, but worth it!

  6. Hoooow do you get a workout in with all the kids? I will admit, I'm the laziest person there has ever been and never EVER exercise but I really feel like I should. But there are just ALL THE BABIES ALL THE TIME wanting to get picked up and never sleeping and always nursing... So when do you find time to work out?

    1. Rosie, my answer is simply that I DON'T excercise with all the kids. :) but I did last year and the way it went down was I excercised in front of the tv and the kids imitated me in an intensely irritating and distracting manner. I probably burned more calories by yelling at them to knock it off. So don't worry, I'm just as bad at this as the next girl:)

  7. I use "Chip Skip" by OPI...goes on after the base coat (I think) but before the polish. Seems to help. I'm in the medical field and was my hand a bajillion times a day and this gets me at least a day or two of no chips....

Hear you on Jill....she's skerry, but sure nuff makes you sore....double edged sword.
