Coffee Creamer Snowman Tutorial

This is possibly the nerdiest thing I've ever done, unless you count the time in 10th grade when I called the guy I had a crush on and talked about eggs for 20 minutes. Yes. Eggs. Needless to say, that was our first and last conversation. How did I ever survive those years? It's just more proof that God exists.
This is my first ever real tutorial!!! (insert sound of no one cheering). How did this come about, you ask? Well, everytime I grabbed the coffee creamer amidst my morning stupor, I'd have a feeling of deja vu. "I feel like we've met before, Coffee Creamer. Who do you remind me of?"
I know. It's weird.
Anyway, what we've got here is a cheery little recycled snowman to give your February a little lift! So here we go.
Materials: Empty Coffee Creamer (I used  an empty Nestle Coffee Mates Creamer container. The really big one! But you can use anything that resembles a snowman shape)
White Craft Paint ( mine was Folk Art in Warm White)
                                          A Small Paintbrush
                                          Black Marker
                                          Yarn
                                          Orange Playdough or Clay

                     Tools: A Glue Gun
                                           Hands

Step 1: Strip and Clean your container. Strip the container, Creepasaurus. Not yourself!! Next, make sure you really get the inside of that container clean. That creamer tends to stick at the bottom and nobody likes a moldy snowman.

Step 2: Paint Your Layers. I'd say you need at least two, maybe three, layers. This sounds tedious, especially when you realize that you are painting your own garbage, but it dries really fast so it's not super time consuming or anything.

Step 3: Paint The Face On The Snowman. It's a little unfinished in this pic, but paint a half circle onto the red cap. Again, 2 or 3 layers.

Halfway done. Make sure one of your kids throws a ham sandwich in the background to really class things up.
Now we bout to get fancy, y'all.

Step 4: Cut Your Yarn and knot it. You want 3 sets of three (that equals NINE!!!!! nerd.) so that you can make the scarf. Make sure the pieces are fairly even. Cut them long enough to make a scarf that will fit around your snowman's neck. Now tie a knot at one end.

Step 5: Braid the scarf with help from a Cute Little Person.  {Disclaimer: I'm a knitter, but I absolutely refuse to knit a scarf for a bleeping plastic snowman. No offense to my own project or anything. Here is a list of other things that I will never knit clothes for: dogs (I know, I'm mean.), cats, squirrels, my  mailbox, food. } I found it was way easier to braid the scarf with some help from my darling daughter. She held the knotted end of the yarn while I braided. Easy peasy.

Step 6: Facial Features.  Use permanent marker for eyes (and buttons). Form a nose from playdough  and use a hot glue gun to keep it in place. You can also put a dot of glue on the scarf to keep it together.

                                          That's it!!
Isn't he cute??
So I figured just for fun, I'd give this guy away. All you need to do is leave me a comment. I'll select a winner first thing in the morning on Saturday, March 2nd! That gives you lots of time to enter to win my recycled trash!!!!!
 wooohoooo!
In the meantime, guzzle down your coffee creamer like a beast and make one of these things!
I'm linking this to Ana's Valentine's Day Cabin Fever and Creativity Link Up. Because nothing says "I have cabin fever" like crafting stuff from your own garbage. Somebody get me out into the fresh air, PLEASE.

  2. I love it! I love seeing other people's craftiness and he IS is super cute... but you might not want to enter me to win it... if you knew how long I allow my own precious children's recycled trash projects lay around the house, you'd see that your snowman might not be safe with me! (Isn't snow-person more politically correct???) And I think he may need a little pompom on the top of his hat... if you really wanted to get crazy! Miss you, H!
